Who may enter Japan?
You may enter Japan if you belong to any of the passenger groups below:
- Japanese nationals (and their spouse / children)
- Permanent residents
- Sea Crew
Travel Requirements Before Departure
Make sure that you have complete travel documents and COVID-19 requirements before your departure date.
Leaving the Philippines:
Non-Filipino nationals must secure either of the following before leaving the Philippines:
- Travel Pass from their visa issuing agency; or
- Emigration Clearance Certificate (ECC)
Entering Japan:
You must have the following documents before entering Japan:
- Negative COVID-19 test certificate for test taken 72 hours before departure
- Questionnaire Web
- Written Pledge
You must install the following mobile applications on your smart phone:
- Overseas Entrants Locator – to report your location information
- Skype / Whatsapp – for video calls with person in charge to confirm your location
- COVID-19 Contact-Confirming Application (COCOA) – contact tracing application
You must also set your smartphone to save your location information in GoogleMaps or other similar apps.
If you do not have a smart phone or if your mobile phone is unable to install the above required applications, you are required to rent a smart phone in Japan at your own expense.
Note: Sea crew members entering Japan to board a vessel are not required to install the mobile applications
Upon Arrival in Japan
You will be required to undergo the following processes upon entering Japan:
COVID-19 Testing:
You will undergo COVID-19 testing upon arrival in Japan. Wait for the results to be released and for further instructions from the Quarantine Officer in Charge.
Quarantine Period:
- You will be required to quarantine for 14 days after arrival in Japan.
- During the entire quarantine period, you are prohibited from using public transport (ex. domestic flights, buses, trains, taxis, etc).
Additional Quarantine Measures For Passengers from the Philippines:
- Starting March 29, 2021 until further notice, passengers coming from the Philippines are required to self-quarantine for 3 days at a location designated by the quarantine station chief (accommodations booked by the quarantine office).
- On the third day passengers are required to take the COVID-19 test again. If the result is negative, the rest of the 14-day quarantine can be done at home.
